About Halyard

Since 1987, from one barge on the Scheldt.

Halyard began as a single river barge between Antwerp and Liège. Today 4,800 people run ships, trains, trucks and warehouses on six continents, and the phone in Antwerp still gets answered on the second ring.

How we got here

Thirty-nine years, one rule: say when it arrives.

1987

Marie and Pieter Halyard buy a 1,350-tonne river barge and start a weekly coffee-and-steel run from Antwerp to Liège.

1998

First ocean service: a chartered feeder ship between Antwerp and Hamburg, sailing every Tuesday.

2008

Our Singapore hub opens with its own berth, and Asia becomes half the business within five years.

2016

Daily block trains connect Antwerp with Duisburg and Milan, taking 40,000 trucks a year off the road.

2021

We publish a net-zero plan with 2030 and 2040 targets and hire an outside auditor to check it every year.

2025

1.2 million TEU moved, 97.4% of them on the date we promised.

What we hold to

Say the date, then keep it.

Every booking gets an arrival date. If we’re going to miss it, you hear it from us first, with a new plan attached.

Count the carbon.

Every quote shows the CO₂ for that box, and every invoice repeats it. What gets counted gets cut.

Pick up the phone.

A named person answers for your account, in your time zone, 24 hours a day.

Sustainability

Lighter on the planet, one box at a time.

We fit shore power at our berths, run our terminal tractors on batteries and route freight onto rail wherever it arrives on time. An outside auditor checks the numbers every spring.
